Colorado Fly Fishing Photos - pg1
I find almost any kind of fly fishing photos interesting. From photos of fly fishing streams to fly fishermen holding their trophy fish, to photos of fly fishing equipment, it is all fascinating. (Click the Thumbnails for an enlarged picture.)

This was a nice 12 to 14 inch rainbow from the Bear Creek Bar Pool in June 2004 |

This is a 2 nymph rig I use a lot. A #16 bead-head flash-back gold ribbed hares ear on the top and a #18 silver ribbed RS2 on the bottom. Leader base is a 9 ft. Rio to 4X then a foot of 5X leader material. At this point I tie on the top fly. Then tie 18 inches of 6X or 7X leader material to the hook eye and tie on the dropper fly. (A lot of fly fishers tie the dropper to the hook bend of the top fly but I find the fish don't seem to care. They hit the top fly even though it hangs there on the two leader pieces.) |

Leather Wading Shoes from 1971. This is the first pair of wading shoes I ever owned when switching from boot feet waders to stocking feet waders and wading shoes. |

These are my latest wading shoes made by the "Korkers" company. Shown is the "Omni-sole" system. The soles are glued to a plastic piece that fits into a retainer ring on the sole of the shoe. Soles starting between the shoes are felt with spikes, then plain felt and finally rubber lug soles for hiking into your favorite stream or lake. These are light years away from the 1971 leather boots above. |

This is a nice 13 inch brown from Browns Run on Bear Creek summer 2004. (Browns Run is one of my favorite pools on Bear Creek.) Although this fall I have caught mostly rainbows out of this pool. (Browns have been upstream spawning) |

This is a really nice 20 inch brown from the South Platte River Bridge Pool in 2001. A year before the disastrous Hayman Fire. (largest forest fire in Colorado history -- approximate 135,000 acres) This fire denuded the ground cover and trees along much of the gold medal waters near Deckers, CO.
When rains happen or the Denver Water Board opens up the Cheesman Dam to meet river flow requirements, the Platte can look like asphalt in color. Reports from South Platte Outfitters in Deckers have indicated some improvement in the river this year (2004).
Editor Note (2006) : From several trips to the South Platte River near Deckers, CO, the river is much improved. Water clarity was good and stream bottom almost normal. |
