While Colorado is best known for cold water stream fly fishing and high country lakes, there are many fine warm water fisheries too. A few right in the Aurora area are the Aurora Reservoir, Quincy Reservoir, Cherry Creek Reservoir and the Rocky Mountain Arsenal to name a few. The lakes on the Arsenal contain some ferocious bass and quality pike fishing in early spring plus some good sized crappie and bluegill. The Arsenal is catch and release because of the chemicals the Army stored there for many years.
Aurora and Quincy Reservoirs contain bass, panfish, pike and trout. Cherry Creek contains quality walleye, bass and other species.
Most of the lakes on the western side of the metro Denver area contain quality warmwater fishing too. It is hard to find a spot in Colorado that doesn't contain some kind of fishing.
On the Plains -- Sterling Reservoir at Sterling Colorado contains wipers up to 20 some pounds, bass and other warmwater species. If you like warmwater flyfishing, Colorado can offer some fine angling.

Fly Fishing for Bass : Smallmouth, Largemouth, and Exotics (Paperback)

Book Description:
A master flyfisherman reveals the essentials of fly fishing for
largemouth, smallmouth and exotics.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. Now that
I have read it, I can truly say that it didn't disappoint. The writing is
pure Lefty Kreh - Straight forward, understandable instruction on how to
catch more and bigger bass with a fly rod.
This book is not directed at novice fly fishers. Little space in this little book is devoted to teaching you how to tie knots or flies and the author assumes that you already know how to make the basic casts.
The author simply tells you what rods and reels to choose, what lines, leaders and flies to use in a specific situation and how to fish them. If you do as he suggests, you will get satisfying results. Far from a dry "how to" book, this is a distillation of practical lessons learned over a lifetime of studying and pursuing the subject species.
I wish a text like this had been available decades ago when I began to appreciate the challenges and rewards of warmwater fly fishing. It could have saved me a lot of wasted time and money. Since reading this book, I am catching more bass, more consistently than ever before.
