The High Plains Drifters Fishing Club Day 2008 was a grand success with a turn out of 34 kids ranging in age from 5 thru 15 along with their parents. The High Plains Drifters is an affiliate club of the Federation of Fly Fishers. In 2009, the HPD would like to fill all 50 student positions in the Kids Day event.

The classroom sessons will be held at the Kassler Education Center in the Old Town of Waterton at the mouth of Waterton Canyon southwest of Denver Metro Area.  Take Wadsworth south to the left hand turnoff just before the Lockheed-Martin entrance. Go south on road past the Lockheed-Martin Conservation area to the Kassler Education Area. (Big Kids Day Banner will be out). Parking is across road from the center.

Kids Day 2009 will be Sat – June 20th. Deadline for registration is June 1. Register Early!

Events:

  1. Special Presentations by Local Experts (This year Pat Dorsey expert guide and fisherman from the Blue Quill Angler in Evergreen, CO will be our presenter)
  2. Knot tying and the equipment you need for fly fishing

Kids Day is limited to children ages 5 – 15. Each child must be registered by a parent or guardian and each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the event. Fly Fishing Tackle will be furnished.

Cost of registration is a mere $15.00 to provide your child with a full day of outdoor recreational FUN.

The Outdoors Industry Association just released its annual report showing fly fishing among kids 6 – 17 had declined 50% from its survey in 2007. Main reason "Not Interested" followed by "Parents don’t take me". These two reasons also applied to the decline in almost all outdoor recreational categories. If we as parents do not take responsibility to teach our kids about the outdoors who will? Researchers attribute decline in Outdoor recreation to an increase in ADDHD and depression in children along with the increase in childhood obesity.

HPD’s Kids Day is a chance to help promote interest in the wonderful outdoors we have in Colorado. Don’t throw it away. Download the registration forms in a printable PDF. (Right Click and Save Target As)
