Announced on CBS Channel 4 Denver news tonight. The Colorado Division of Wildlife has developed a strain of Rainbows resistant to Whirling Disease (1). Fingerlings were recently stocked in the South Platte River near Chatfield Reservoir.
The DOW hopes to eventually restore a wild rainbow fishery to Colorado Streams with these Whirling Disease (2)resistant rainbows. It is estimated that restoration may take as long as 10 years.
This project was funded by private contributions and the sale of fishing licenses. The Colorado DOW is funded solely by sale of fishing and hunting licenses.
I hope this new strain will take hold and breed true.
